Lemons Named 2008 ACC Outdoor Field MVP

April 24, 2008

ATLANTA - Georgia Tech senior James Lemons II was named the 2008 Atlantic Coast Conference Outdoor Most Valuable Field Performer of the Year today, as determined by a vote of the league's 12 head coaches. Lemons successfully defended his outdoor triple jump title and finished third in the long jump at this year's ACC Championships in front of his home crowd at the George C. Griffin Track.

Lemons beat out fellow Yellow Jacket Alphonso Jordan to win his second straight ACC triple jump title with a personal best jump of 53 feet 6 ½ inches. His long jump of 24 feet 10 ½ inches was good enough for third place, one spot ahead of his finish at last year's meet. He currently ranks fifth in the nation in the triple jump and 28th in the long jump.

This is Lemons second ACC MVP award, having won the field honor after the 2007 indoor season.

The Georgia Tech track & field teams are currently competing at the historic Penn Relays at Franklin Field on the University of Pennsylvania campus in Philadelphia, Pa.
