Tech rising sophomore pitcher is interning for a defense contractor in Texas.

ATLANTA - While many college students use the summer to relax by the pool, go to the beach and work as waiters and waitresses, members of the Georgia Tech Softball Team are making full use of their time. Some are traveling the world, while others are getting a head start on their careers with some unique and interesting internships or jobs. RamblinWreck.com will give you a feel for what some of these student-athletes are doing with "Summer Diaries." In this edition, rising sophomore Emily Schreck talks about her internship with Mustang Technology, a defense contractor who makes radar systems for the military. In the next few weeks, several members of the team will give you an inside look at what they have been up to, including redshirt junior Jen Yee and 2007 graduate Caitlin Lever who are on the Canadian National Team and preparing for the Olympics in August.

Softball Summer Diaries Part III: Emily Schreck Talks About Her Unique Internship

Hey guys!

Well my summer has been pretty relaxing so far... full of laying by the pool in the sun, taking naps, and reading my favorite books! Okay so this only happens in my dreams ... right before my alarm goes off at 6 am...but my summer has been pretty eventful.

I was fortunate enough to get an internship at a company called Mustang Technology. Mustang Technology, in Allen, Texas, is a defense contractor who makes radar systems for the military. There are eight other interns from several states - Florida, Arkansas, Alabama, Oklahoma, and Texas. This company is a good fit for me since there are a couple of softball dads and some Georgia Tech alumni.

I have gotten to do some interesting things. I made a target board that was used for robotics and laser accuracy testing. I have been able to sit in on Production planning meetings and have done thermal testing with the "Thermotron". I took a field trip to watch a controller board be built and next week I am going to a nearby airport to watch some radar testing. Since I have only finished my freshman year and my engineering knowledge is limited, I have done several different jobs from pulling parts to painting walls and replacing ceiling tiles. It has been interesting to learn how a top-secret company operates. There are lots of meetings that the interns can't go to since our security clearance isn't high enough. There are even secret rooms that contain top-secret information and only people with the highest security clearance are allowed to enter.

Other than working I am taking a government class, watching my sister play softball, pitching, and don't worry Tiffany... lifting and conditioning. I am looking forward to getting back to Tech and getting ready for football season! See y'all in a couple of weeks! Go Jackets!!!!
