PHILADELPHIA, PA -- George Washington sophomore Cole Turner (Marion, IN/Lakeview Christian Academy) has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week for men's golf, the league office announced Monday. It marks the third A-10 weekly honor of his career. He was a two-time A-10 Rookie of the Week last season.
In the Colonials' only competiton last week, Turner was just one stroke off the pace with a two-round 140 (70-70) to finish third in a field of 59 golfers at the Notre Dame Irish Invitational men's golf tournament in South Bend, IN. The one-day, 36-hole event was played Saturday on the par 70, 7,023-yard Warren Golf Course.
An Indiana native, Turner averaged 2.88 strokes (-1) on the par-three holes and an even-par four strokes on all par-four holes. He birdied six of the 36 holes and both of his even-par rounds on Saturday matched his single-round career low. His 75.2 stroke average ranks third on the squad.
Turner's efforts helped the Colonials to a fourth-place finish in the nine-team field with a total 586 (290-296), 26 over par and three strokes behind third-place Cleveland State (583).
Next up for Turner and the Colonials is the Princeton Invitational April 12-13, at Princeton, NJ. The 54-hole event takes place at the par-71, 6,380-yard Springdale Golf Club.
