WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington University men's tennis defeated Xavier, 6-1, early Friday afternoon in an Atlantic 10 Conference match held at the Regency Sport & Health Club in McLean, VA. It was the fourth straight win for GW, who improved to 6-3 overall on the season and 2-0 in the A-10.
In Friday's double competition, GW took two of the three matches to claim the doubles point. The pairs of Erik Hannah and Yan Levinksi and Sam Salyer and Ryan Schlachter secured the two wins for the Colonials, winning 8-0 and 8-4, respectively.
In singles play, GW took five of the six individual matches, including Yan Levinski's 6-2, 6-3 victory from the No. 2 spot, improving his record to 6-0 this spring. Xavier's only point was claimed in the No. 5 position, as Mike Dieciuc defeated Mark Doumba in a very tight contest, 7-6(4), 6-7(4), 1-0. Other GW wins came from Mustafa Gencsoy, Sam Salyer, Erik Hannah and Chris Kushma.
George Washington will host A-10 rival Dayton Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at the Regency Health and Sport Club in McLean, VA.
