ANNAPOLIS, MD - George Washington men's tennis completed their 2007-2008 season with a loss at Navy, 6-1, in a non-conference match Sunday afternoon at the USNA Tennis Courts in Annapolis, MD. The match came just one week after GW finished 2nd at the 2008 Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Championship. The Colonials finished the season 14-11 overall, while the Midshipmen improved to 17-8.

Navy earned the doubles point with wins in each of the three matches. First to finish was Navy's No. 2 team of Alex James and Ramsey Lemaich, who won an 8-3 decision over GW's Erik Hannah and Yan Levinski, with Nick Birger and Jason Hill next posting an 8-4 win over Elliott Daniels and Mark Doumba at No. 3 doubles.

In singles action, the Mids quickly went up by the score of 2-0 when freshman Yan Levinski, playing from the No. 1 position, was forced to retire from his match. Victories by Lemaich over Doumba at No. 4 singles (6-2, 6-3) and by James over Daniels at No. 5 singles (6-2, 6-2) clinched the overall victory for Navy.

Hill would go on to rally after losing the first set of his No. 3 singles match to Hannah (6-3) to win a second set tiebreaker by the score of 7-5 and force a third set. The duo played a tiebreaker to 10 points instead of a complete third set, with Hill eventually winning the breaker by the score of 10-6 and the match.

Navy's final point was won by Owen Bullard, who outlasted freshman Chris Kushma, 6-3, 6-7 (1-7), 1-0 (16-14) at No. 6 singles. Bullard fought off three match points before prevailing.

GW's lone victory came when senior Sam Salyer recorded a 6-0, 6-2 win over Johnny Waters at No. 2 singles.

George Washington finished their 2007-08 campaign with an overall mark of 14-11, 9-2 in A-10 play, and a 2nd place finish at the conference's championships last weekend. Senior Mustafa Gencsoy led the team with a 23-6 overall mark in singles play, including 9-1 in conference action. Sam Salyer finished 17-13, while Erik Hannah posted a 17-9 mark in his first year of collegiate tennis, including a perfect 9-0 tally in the league.
