No. 16/13 GW Tops Duquesne, 73-65, as McKeown Posts 500th Career Victory

Feb. 2, 2008

Final Stats

PITTSBURGH, PA - Senior Kimberly Beck scored 19 points, all in the second half, to lead four double-digits scorers as No. 16/13 George Washington escaped with a 73-65 victory against Duquesne at Palumbo Center Saturday night. GW head coach Joe McKeown became the 34th Division I women's basketball coach all-time to reach 500 career victories.

McKeown, who won 68 games at New Mexico State from 1986-89, improves to 432-151 in his 19th season at GW.

After falling behind 6-4 early, the Colonials went on a 15-2 run to take the lead for good. Juniors Antelia Parrish and Jessica Adair, who combined for 22 first-half points, scored 11 during the run as GW took a 19-8 edge with 12:37 remaining.

Duquesne closed to within four, but GW responded with a 10-0 spurt and led 33-24 at halftime.

Senior Sarah-Jo Lawrence opened the second half with a steal and lay-up to reopen a double-digit lead, but the Dukes began to narrow the margin as Adair picked up her fourth foul with 15:04 remaining.

Kristi Little scored 10 points to help Duquesne once again close the gap to four, 49-45, midway through the period. Little finished with 16 to lead the Dukes.

GW scored 13 of the next 17 points over the next five minutes, highlighted by senior Whitney Allen's end-to-end three-point play, to put the game out-of-reach. Beck iced the game with seven free throws over the final 57 seconds.

Senior Whitney Allen scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds to become just the ninth player in GW program history with 600 career points and rebounds. Adair finished with 17, while Parrish chipped in 14.
