PHILADELPHIA, PA (AP) - Jessica Adair scored 20 points to help No. 17 George Washington beat Saint Joseph's 61-53 on Sunday.
Clinging to a 55-53 lead with 1:29 left, George Washington (22-5, 10-2 Atlantic-10) scored the final six points of the game on a 3-pointer by Antelia Parrish and free throws by Kimberly Beck.
Sarah Acker had 12 points and nine rebounds for the Hawks (14-13, 6-6). Amy Wold and Timisha Gomez each added 10 points for Saint Joseph's. Gomez also had seven assists.
It was a sloppy game with each team turning the ball over 18 times. George Washington held a 20-18 halftime lead after shooting just 27 percent from the field (8-for-30) in the first half.
NOTES: Saint Joseph's held a 40-37 lead on Timisha Gomez's three-pointer with 9:44 to play, but GW went on a 9-0 run over the next 1:35 to take the lead for good ... GW clinched at least a first-round bye as one of the Top 4 seeds for the upcoming Atlantic 10 Championship ... The eight-point margin of victory marked the fourth straight series game at Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse decided by eight points or less ... With 20 points, junior Jessica Adair moved within 42 of 1,000 career points ... Sunday's game was the 300th regular season A-10 game coached by Joe McKeown (248-52).
