Beck Chosen Lieberman Award Final Nominee for Second Straight Year

Feb. 14, 2008

DETROIT, MI - George Washington senior women's basketball player Kimberly Beck has been named one of 10 final nominees for the Rotary Club of Detroit's Nancy Lieberman Award, which honors the nation's top Division I point guard.

Beck, who was a final nominee and one of three finalists for the Lieberman Award in 2007, paces the Atlantic 10 in assists (6.3 apg) for the fourth consecutive season. Penn State's Suzie McConnell `88 is the only other player in A-10 history to lead the league in assists for four seasons and only 10 players in NCAA Division I history have accomplished the feat.

Beck, a two-time first team All-Atlantic 10 pick and the league's 2007 Defensive Player of the Year, is adding a career-best 13.7 points per game for the nationally ranked Colonials. She is the only player in A-10 history to record at least 1,200 points, 600 assists, 300 rebounds, 200 steals and 60 blocks during her four-year career.

A 2007 Associated Press honorable mention All-American, Beck was named A-10 Player of the Week for her Most Valuable Player effort in the GW Thanksgiving Classic earlier this season, in which she posted consecutive double-doubles in victories against South Dakota St. and Western Kentucky. She was also named to the New Orleans Four Points by Sheraton Invitational All-Tournament Team and scored a career-high 25 points in a come-from-behind victory at Rhode Island in January.

The criterion for the Lieberman Award is the floor leadership, play-making and ball-handling skills that personified Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman during her career. Sportswriters from across the country have determined the final nominee list and will select three finalists and one winner at the end of March. The announcement of the three finalists and winner will be made during Final Four Weekend, April 6-8. The winner will be invited to attend the award luncheon in Detroit.
