WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington women's basketball senior Sarah-Jo Lawrence has been selected to ESPN The Magazine's Academic All-America Third Team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Tuesday.

A communications and sociology major, Lawrence is the third player in GW women's basketball history to be named a national Academic All-American, joining Kenan Cole (first team) in 2007 and Jennifer Shasky (second team) in 1993.

Lawrence was also in the running for national honors last season after being voted first team Academic All-District II. She is a two-time Arthur Ashe, Jr., Sports Scholar and was named to the 2007 Division I-AAA Athletic Directors' Association Scholar-Athlete Team. Currently, she is one of 10 finalists for Lowe's Senior CLASS Award in women's basketball, which recognizes the nation's most well-rounded student-athlete.

Lawrence is the only player to start all 27 games for No. 15/t15 GW, which enters Wednesday's game at Richmond with a 22-5 overall record and in a three-way tie atop the Atlantic 10 standings with two regular-season games remaining.

As of Feb. 26, Lawrence ranks third on the team and 14th in the Atlantic 10 with 13.3 points per game. She also is in the Top 5 in the A-10 in assists (4.07 apg) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.59) and is tied for 11th in the conference in steals (1.52 spg). Lawrence is currently 15th all-time at GW with 1,298 points in 123 career games.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 on a scale of 4.00. Lawrence was among 40 first team Academic All-District award winners eligible for the national ballot.
