WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington senior backcourt teammates Kimberly Beck and Sarah-Jo Lawrence have been invited to attend the WNBA Pre-Draft Camp, to be held at the University of Tampa's Bob Martinez Center this Friday and Saturday, April 4-5.
Beck, the 2008 Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, and Lawrence, the 2008 A-10 Student-Athlete of the Year, seek to become the fourth and fifth players from GW chosen in the WNBA Draft, which will be held at the Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor, FL, April 9.
Current GW assistant coach Tajama Abraham (Ngongba) was taken by the Sacramento Monarchs in the inaugural WNBA Draft in 1997 and Cathy Joens and Ugo Oha were selected by the New York Liberty and Connecticut Sun, respectively, in the 2004 WNBA Draft.
Beck and Lawrence combined for 2,768 points during their four seasons at GW, the fourth-highest scoring tandem in school history. The duo also led GW to a 101-29 overall record, four Atlantic 10 regular-season titles, four NCAA Tournaments and two NCAA Sweet 16 appearances during their careers.
Beck, a two-time Associated Press All-America selection, finished her four-year career as GW's all-time leader with 717 assists and ranks 12th in scoring with 1,395 points. She also ranks second all-time at GW in steals (295), third in three-pointers (229), fourth in games played (129) and fifth in free throw percentage (.804). She is the only player in Division I women's basketball history with at least 1,300 points, 700 assists, 300 rebounds, 200 steals and 60 blocks in her career.
Lawrence ranks 13th all-time at GW in scoring with 1,373 points and is 16th with 311 assists. Lawrence played in all 130 games during her career, tying the school record, and averaged 12.3 points in 10 NCAA Tournament games. She was named the A-10's Sixth Player of the Year in 2006 and was an All-Conference honoree in each of the last three seasons.
