Kristen Simpson Tabbed EAGL Specialist of the Week

Feb. 25, 2008

WASHINGTON, DC - Junior Kristen Simpson was named East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Specialist of the Week, it was announced by league officials Monday night. This is the first EAGL weekly award received by Simpson, and it is the first of any Colonials gymnast this season.

At last Sunday's head-to-head match up against Pittsburgh, Simpson tied a school record with a career-high 9.950 on the vault, taking the individual title on the event. The top mark had been unmatched since 2004, when former GW gymnast Erin Aiken established the record.

Simpson also made her first appearance of the season, and first since 2006, on balance beam and recorded a 9.700.

The Colonials, now ranked 37th in the country, are back in action Saturday, March 1 at 7:00 pm at #20 Penn State. The home of the Nittany Lions, and the alma mater of Head Coach Margie Foster-Cunningham, also plays host to Bowling Green and SUNY Cortland.
