WASHINGTON, DC -- UMass's Melynda Zwick fired home a goal two minutes into the first overtime period as the Minutewomen escaped with a 9-8 victory in an Atlantic 10 game Sunday at GW's Mount Vernon Field. The loss dropped GW to 3-7 overall, 1-1 in the A-10 while UMass improved to 3-8, 1-1 in the league.

UMass scored the game's first four goals, including a pair by junior Kaytlin McCormick, to take control early. GW finally got on th scoreboard at the 17:33 mark on a free-position goal from Audrey Joy. The Colonials trimmed the deficit to 4-2 on a goal by Katherine Sampson off a feed from Laura Wunk at the 8:48 mark.

UMass's Kathleen Typadis then scored her third and fourth goals of the game to put the Minutewomen up 6-2 with 2:38 remaining. GW's Mia Breheny added a goal a minute later to cut the UMass lead to 6-3 going into halftime.

Following the intermission, GW senior Kristin Karcsh scored a pair of goals to get the Colonials within one at 7-6. The teams then traded the next four goals with UMass's Kelsey Schreiner and Meghan Reddy sandwiching a pair of scores around a Karcsh goal for an 8-6 UMass advantage with 6:50 left in regulation.

Three minutes later, Wunk took a pass from Lindsay Melvin and found the net to get GW with 8-7 at the 3:48 mark. With the clock winding down below the two-minute mark, Karcsh struck again to tie the game at 8-8 with 1:41 showing to force the overtime. Zwick scored what proved to be the game-winner off a pass from McCormick with :56 seconds left in the first overtime.
