Women's Tennis Drops Match at Cross-Town Rival Georgetown

WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington University women's tennis lost at Georgetown, 5-2, early Wednesday afternoon at the McDonough Tennis Complex on the Hoyas' campus in Washington, DC. It was the fourth straight loss for the Colonials, who fell to 5-9 overall this season. Georgetown earned their first win over the Colonials since 2005 as they improved to 4-10.

The visiting Colonials claimed the doubles point to start Wednesday's match, earning wins in the second and third positions. Madhuri Jha and Verena Knoedler partnered to win 8-2 in the No. 2 flight, and in the No. 3 position, Tracy Stecko and Michele Style won, 8-4.

In singles play, Nadia Demidenko got things started on the right foot for GW, winning from the No. 1 position over Georgetown's Stephanie Cohen, 6-1, 6-3. However, the Hoyas swept the final five individual flights, including the deciding fourth position, won by Maxi Thiels, 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (2).

George Washington travels to Philadelphia, PA, for a pair of Atlantic 10 Conference matches this weekend. The Colonials play Massachusetts on Friday, Apr. 4, and then Temple the following day, at 2:00 p.m. Both matches are scheduled for play at the Arthur Ashe tennis courts.
