Women's Water Polo Routs Villanova at Terrapin Invitational

COLLEGE PARK, MD - Sophomore Tara Sullivan scored four goals to help the George Washington women's water polo team to a 14-3 victory over Villanova at the Terrapin Invitational Sunday. The Colonials finished 1-3 at Maryland's Terrapin Invite to move to 3-6 on the season.
Freshman Melissa Sesana added two goals as GW stormed to a commanding 7-0 lead through two quarters against Villanova Sunday. The Colonials led by 12 goals, 13-1, after three quarters and cruised to their second win over the Wildcats this season.
Senior goalkeeper Julie Jacoby posted a season-high 18 blocks, but it wasn't enough in GW's narrow 12-11 overtime loss in the Invitational opener against Wagner Saturday. The Colonials led held 3-1 and 7-3 leads following the first and second quarters. However, the Seahawks battled back to tie the game at 7-7 after three quarters and got two goals in the first overtime session to knock off the Colonials. Sullivan and sophomores Danielle Mayer and Bernadette Karandy led GW with two goals apiece.
Sophomore Emily Chereson had two goals in Saturday's late 14-5 loss versus St. Francis (NY). The Terriers rolled out to a 6-0 lead after the first quarter and the Colonials could only close to within four, 7-3, at halftime. Mayer, Karandy and rookie Erin Delker also scored, while Jacoby had four saves.
In Sunday's finale, senior Greta Pedraza and junior Amy Moren each scored two goals and Sullivan chipped in another, but it wasn't enough in a 9-5 loss to Marist.

GW will compete in the ECAC Championship, pitting CWPA and MAAC teams, at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA, March 1 and 2.
