Assistant Director David Martin

David Martin Named Assistant Director of Rudolf Fitness Center

Feb. 4, 2008

SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University athletic director Mike Roth has announced the hiring of David Martin as an assistant director of the Kermit R. Rudolf Fitness Center. Martin comes to Gonzaga after working as a fitness center supervisor for the premier golf resort Suncadia in Cle Elum, Wash. Martin also worked as a personal trainer, volunteer firefighter and a men's high school basketball coach prior to his appointment at Gonzaga.

"This is pretty much my dream job," stated Martin. "I get to work with great people, stay in shape by having access to a premiere facility, and do what I love for a living."

Martin, who graduated with a bachelor of science degree in exercise science from Central Washington University, played collegiate basketball at three different institutions. He brings an extensive knowledge of aquatics to the Rudolf Fitness Center, as he has been associated with pools for over 10 years.

Martin takes over the position vacated by Jose Hernandez, who was promoted to the Director of the Rudolf Fitness Center after Rip Horsey resigned to pursue other opportunities.

Hernandez has worked at the Rudolf Fitness Center since its opening in 2003. Prior to his promotion, his duties included coordinator of the body conditioning and exercise programs, equipment coordinator, and supervisor of the facility. Hernandez also helped begin the ZAGFit Wellness Program, a program that helps create and sustain healthy lifestyles by making one conscious, positive choice after another, day after day.

Hernandez is currently pursuing his doctorate degree at Gonzaga in leadership studies, with his dissertation in sports psychology.

Shelly Radtke was also promoted to Associate Director of the Rudolf Fitness Center/Director of Intramurals.
