Spokane, Wash. - The Gonzaga University women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to local foe Eastern Washington University Wednesday evening at the Spokane Racquet Club in Spokane, Wash.

With the loss, the Zags fall to 2-5, while Eastern Washington improved to 3-5.

The Eagles jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after taking two-of-three doubles matches. The Zags' Emily Anderson and Aglaya Kokurina defeated Marie Demerath and Sarah Leuenberger 8-4 at the No. 2 spot. At No. 1, EWU's Kasey Knox and Amanda Mankovits defeated Erin Humphrey and Danielle Farmer 8-6, while Clare Dodge and Sydney Lederhouse dropped an 8-2 decision at No. 3 to Kerstyn Dolack and Rachel Berger.

In singles play, Gonzaga earned both of its points at the top spots. At No. 1, Anderson earned a straight set victory over Knox 6-0, 7-6 (4). Kokurina improved to 4-3 this season with a 7-5, 6-4 over Dolack at No. 2. Dodge jumped out to an early lead but wasn't able to hold on as the freshman fell to Leuenberger 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3. Playing No. 4, Lederhouse dropped a three-set decision to Makovits 6-3, 0-6, 6-1. GU's Rika Mehndiratta lost in straight-sets at No. 5 to Demerath 6-2, 7-6 (4), while Humphrey wrapped up singles play with a 6-2, 6-3 loss to Berger at No. 6.

The Zags will return to play Saturday when they travel south to Pullman, Wash. to face Washington State University.
