Women's Tennis Travels To WCC Championship

Spokane, Wash. - WCC Women's Tennis Bracket in PDF Format The Gonzaga University women's tennis team will compete in the West Coast Conference Championship this weekend in Santa Clara, Calif. The three-day tournament will begin Friday morning at 9 a.m. The Bulldogs enter the championship looking to extend a five match win streak. Santa Clara University will host the event this year at the Degheri Tennis Center. The tournament will be held as a dual-match format. The Bulldogs, who are 9-12 overall and 1-3 against WCC foes, are seeded seventh and will meet second-seeded Saint Mary's College at 1 p.m. Gonzaga's seventh seed marks the its highest seed since the 2001 season, when the Zags were seeded sixth. The Bulldogs have been seeded seventh twice before in 1998 and 1997. Gonzaga's highest seed of all-time was a No. 5 seed in 2000. Highlighting the Bulldogs this season is junior Aglaya Kokurina, who will play at the No. 1 spot. Kokurina boasts a 14-7 record, including going an impressive 7-2 when playing at the top position. Also looked upon to lead the Zags will be senior Emily Anderson, who will play No. 2 for GU. Anderson, who will be playing in her final championship, has posted a 10-11 singles record. Sydney Lederhouse will also be making her final championship appearance, as she is slated to play No. 5 singles. Also scheduled to compete in singles play is freshman Rika Mehndiratta, who will play at No. 2, freshman Clare Dodge at No. 3 and freshman Danielle Farmer at No. 6. The Zags' doubles teams are expected to be Anderson and Kokruina at No. 1, Mehndiratta and Farmer at No. 2, and Lederhouse and Dodge at No. 3. Top-seeded Pepperdine University enters the championship looking for its 19th WCC crown in the 22 years of the WCC Championship. The winner of Friday's match between Gonzaga and Saint Mary's will advance in the championship bracket, while the loser will fall into the consolation draw.
