Joplin, MO. - #6 Grand Valley State claimed a 5-0 shutout victory over #25 Drury at Missouri Southern State in Joplin, Missouri Wednesday afternoon. GVSU improves to 5-1 on the year, while Drury falls to 7-5. The Lakers were scheduled to play Missouri Southern State following the Drury contest.

The Lakers scored a pair of runs in the top of the second as SS Dan Anstedt singled to left and moved to second on a sacrafice bunt by 1B Cory Maquire. Anstedt went to third on a groundout by DH Brennen Glass and scored on a two-out double to left center by 2B Josh Hillyard. CF Pat Radde singled to left to score Hillyard and give GVSU a 2-0 lead. The Lakers added a single run in the fifth when LF Casey Robrahn doubled to center and scored on a single to right by C Bobby Walmsley.

Grand Valley State added two insurance runs in the seventh on four hits. Hillyard opened the inning with a single to center. Following a pair of flyouts RF Derek Hinke singled to center and moved to second on the throw to third. Robrahn then came through with a two-out, two-RBI single to to left center that drove in Hillyard and Hinke.

Sophomore pitcher Brad Raj picked up the win, yielding no runs on five hits in six innings of work. Raj tallied four strikeouts and walked just one as he retired 11 on groundouts. Eric Snyder struckout a pair and yielded three hits in two innings, while David Bowman pitched a hitless ninth. GVSU scored five runs on 12 hits, while Drury managed eight hits and advanced just two runners past second.
