Not long after DB Brandon Carr became the highest Laker selected in the NFL Draft on April 27, 2008, two other Grand Valley State football players have earned the right to participate in rookie mini-camps with NFL teams.
OL Brandon Barnes signed with the Baltimore Ravens on April 27, soon after the draft wrapped up. Just a few days after the Barnes signing, LB Anthony Adams received an invitation from the Detroit Lions to participate in their rookie mini-camp.
Barnes earned Associated Press and Daktronics First-Team All-American plaudits in 2007. Brandon was the top vote getter among offensive linemen on the 2007 Daktronics All-American Team. He was also named the Gene Upshaw Award winner which is awarded to the top lineman in NCAA Division II football. He earned a total of eight all-american awards during his four year career at GVSU.
Adams was named to the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) First-Team, marking the seventh straight year GVSU has placed a player on the AFCA All-American Team. In addition, Anthony was named to the Associated Press and Daktronics All-American First-Teams. He concluded his college career ranking fifth in all-time tackles at Grand Valley State with 357.
The Ravens will open their two-day rookie mini-camp on May 4, while the Lions will hold their rookie mini-camp on May 4-6.
