The GVSU men's tennis team fell at the hands of DePauw University on Sunday, dropping the match by an 8-1 score. The Tigers stole all three doubles matches from the Lakers and took five of six in singles en route to the defeat. The loss marks the first of the season for GVSU, as it falls to 3-1 this spring. This was DePauw's first match and it now stands at 1-0. The Lakers will look to bounce back on February 23 as they will play host to Indianapolis in a home match.
Laker newcomer Philipp Claus picked up the sole win for GVSU, as he won in the No. 4 singles slot, 6-3, 7-6. Sophomore Tony Dang dropped a tough, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 decision to Kortney Keith. Dang was the only Laker able to force a third set in a singles match. Brock Plangger, seeing his first action of the spring season, fell to Scott Sauer, 6-2, 6-2. Renato Tamashiro, Patrick Troy, and Patryk Polus all dropped straight-set matches.
DePauw proved better than the Lakers across the board in doubles play, although the Lakers were involved in a couple close matches. Dang and Polus fell in the top doubles slot, 8-6, while Alex Switzer and Matt Globerson fell, 8-5. The loss snaps a six match winning streak and the duo falls to 9-2 on the season. Troy and Tamashiro also dropped their match by an 8-1 count.
