Orlando, Fla. - Grand Valley State University picked up two wins on its spring trip, defeating the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez and La Salle on March 2 and 3. The Lakers blanked PR-Mayaguez 9-0 on March 2 before downing La Salle by a score of 8-1 on March 3. GVSU lost just one doubles match during the two-day span and have three more matches on their spring trip before returning home.
Against Puerto Rico, Mayaguez, Renato Tamashiro picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles. Patrick Troy followed that up with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 and Philipp Claus won in a close match at No. 3, 6-0, 0-6, 10-6. Alex Switzer won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 and Brock Plangger took a perfect 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6. Patryk Polus's match at No. 4 singles was stopped with him ahead 4-1. GVSU took all three points in doubles play.
Against La Salle, Tony Dang took a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 1 singles, followed by a win by Tamashiro at No. 2, 6-7 (6), 6-3, 10-3. Troy blanked his opponent in No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-0, and Claus won at No. 4 6-1, 6-4. Switzer took No. 5 with a score of 6-4, 6-1 and Plangger won again at No. 6, 6-2, 6-1. Grand Valley dropped just one doubles match, an 8-5 loss at No. 1 doubles (Dang/Polus).
