Orlando, Fla. - Grand Valley State University picked up its third and fourth wins in Florida, defeating Sacred Heart 7-1 and St. Cloud State 8-1. The Lakers are now 8-1 overall and 4-0 during their current trip to Orlando, Fla. GVSU took all six singles points in the match and only lost one point overall, in No. 1 doubles, in the winning effort against St. Cloud State. The Lakers also dropped just one point against Sacred Heart.
Against St. Cloud State, Tony Dang took a three-set victory in No. 1 singles, winning 4-6, 6-0, 10-6. That match was the only one that would take three sets. Renato Tamashiro won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles and Patrick Troy took the point at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-3. Philipp Claus, who has not lost yet this season, held down the No. 4 singles spot with a 6-1, 6-3 win. Alex Switzer and Brock Plangger both picked up 6-4, 6-3 wins at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots, respectively.
Dang and Plangger lost the No. 1 doubles point 8-6, but Troy and Tamashiro got it back in No. 2 doubles, winning 8-6. Switzer teamed up with Matt Globerson to take the point in No. 3 doubles, 8-3.
Against Sacred Heart, Tamashiro took No. 1 singles with a 7-6 (7), 6-1 victory. Troy won at No. 2 singles (6-2, 6-4) and then Claus took No. 3 singles (6-4, 6-3). Switzer dropped a point in No. 4 singles, but Plangger and Matt Globerson won at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively. In doubles, Troy and Tamashiro took No. 1 and the team of Plangger and Cluas won at No. 3. No. 2 doubles was unfinished, as GVSU had already won.
