The Lakers men's tennis team earned a hard-fought, 5-4 victory over Aquinas College on Friday. GVSU was able to take four of six in singles but just one out of three doubles to hold on for the win. The Lakers improve to 10-2 on the season with the win. Next up for GVSU is a series of home matches, starting with Lewis Sunday, with the match taking place at the Ramblewood tennis courts in Grandville, Mich at 8:30 am.

The Saints got the better of the Lakers in doubles play, as they were able to take two of three. Alex Switzer and Matt Globerson earned the lone doubles victory for GVSU with an 8-3 win in the No. 3 doubles position. The duo has posted an impressive 15-3 record on the season. Tony Dang and Brock Plangger were downed in the No. 1 doubles slot, 9-7, while Patrick Troy and Renato Tamashiro were defeated by an 8-3 count.

The Lakers salvaged the match in singles play, taking four of the six from Aquinas. Troy earned an easy 6-1, 6-1 win in the No. 3 singles slot while Philipp Claus continued his winning ways with a 6-3, 6-0 victory. Plangger downed his opponent by the same 6-3, 6-0 score while Matt Globerson was victorious in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2). Dang fell in the top singles position 6-3, 6-3 and Tamashiro was ousted in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.
