The GVSU men's tennis team picked up its second win of the weekend over Mercyhursy on Sunday by a score of 8-1. With the win, the Lakers improve to 17-4 on the season and 5-2 in GLIAC play. They are currently holding onto third place in the GLIAC, behind undefeated Northwood (5-0) and Ferris State (6-1). GVSU has concluded regular season play and will compete in the GLIAC tournament starting on April 19th, at 9:00 am.
GVSU swept singles competition from Mercyhurst en route to the win. Tony Dang won in the No. 1 singles slot, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3. It took Renato Tamashiro two tie-breaks, but he eventually held on for the 7-6 (7-1), 7-6 (7-2) victory. Patrick Troy was dominant in the third singles position, earning a 6-0, 6-0 blanking over his opponent. Philipp Claus picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win in No. 4 singles while Alex Switzer was also victorious by that same score. Brock Plangger got the last singles win for GVSU, by a 6-3 7-5 margin.
The Lakers' only slip-up was in the top doubles slot, as Dang and Patryk Polus were ousted by Tim Hansson and Mateusz Przybysz in a close match, 8-6. Tamashiro teamed up with Troy and cruised to an 8-1 win while the tandem of Switzer and Matt Globerson continued its winning ways with an 8-4 victory.
