Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State hosted the 2008 Bob Eubanks Open Friday evening at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. The Lakers won seven events and met three NCAA DII provisional marks. GVSU will next be in action at the Division II Challenge at Saginaw Valley State next Friday (Feb. 1) and Saturday (Feb. 2).
Michael Palombo and Troy Rock got the Lakers going early with impressive runs in the 200. Palombo crossed the finish line first (23.01), followed by Rock (23.28). Bill Makela finished second in the 400 (52.17), while three Lakers turned in solid runs in the mile. Curtis Barclay finished second (4:25.89), Benjamin McCune third (4:26.64) and Tim Zeerip fourth (4:27.96). Todd Schuster finished first and met the NCAA DII provisional qualifying mark in the 800 with a time of 1:54.08. Nick Polk finished second in the 3000, crossing the finish line in 8:39.84. Garron Lucius improved his NCAA provisional mark in the 55 hurdles with his first-place finish in 7.65. Joey Latz was second (7.98).
Ryan Rademacher met the provisional mark with his second in the long jump (23-06.75), while Mitch Bosch claimed top honors in the weight throw (50-06.75), followed by Clay Lipski (48-10.25).
