Walnut, Calif. - Bryant Wilson's pole vault of 17' earned him a national championship and help Grand Valley State University finish sixth at the NCAA Outdoor National Championships. Wilson's 10 point vault was a big part of the Lakers' 30 point final score. The win was Wilson's second title of the season, as he also picked one up during the indoor season.

Chris Hammer and Curtis Barclay both picked up points in the 3000-meter steeplechase after qualifying on Thursday. Hammer picked up a sixth-place finish with a time of 9:10.89, while Barclay's time of 9:11.56 put him seventh. They earned three and two points, respectively. The final six points of the day came in the 5000-meter run. Nate Peck finished third with a time of 14:17.92, while Nick Polk finished just out of the top eight. Polk's time of 14:37.49 put him ninth overall.

Wilson's 10 points and GVSU's 30 overall placed them sixth out of 54 teams that scored points. Abilene Christian was the overall champion with a total of 108.5 points.
