Lakers Start Weekend at GLIAC Heptathlon/Decathlon

Hillsdale, Mich. - With the GLIAC Outdoor Championships still a week away, Grand Valley State University's men's and women's track teams competed in the GLIAC Heptathlon and Decathlon to kick things off. Mike Stowe and Ali Beach set school records at the event and GVSU picked up some points for next week's championships. After two days, the men are first and the women are fifth.

Stowe won the decathlon and set a school record with his total of 6917 points. The total was three points off of the automatic qualifying mark for the NCAA National Meet. Joey Latz finished fourth in the event with 6077 points.

Beach also set a school record, finishing sixth in the heptathlon with 4217 points. Tanisha Johnson and Amber Pearsall finished eighth and ninth, respectively. After the decathlon and heptathlon, the men have compiled 15 points while the women have picked up four.
