Allendale, Mich. - Kristina Langton and the Grand Valley State University women's golf team jumped out to a five-stroke lead after day one of the NCAA East Regional. Langton, the 2008 GLIAC Freshman of the Year, shot a team-best 76 to help GVSU to a 312 in the first round, five shots ahead of Ferris State. Round two tees off at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
After round one, Langton's +4 is good for second place. Following that, Grand Valley State also benefitted from strong perfomances by all four other golfers. All five Lakers that participated finished in the top 10 after the first day. Ashley Smith heads into day two tied for fourth place with a 78, two strokes behind Langton. All three other Lakers, Tracey Puckering, Caitlin Bennett and Allie Tyler, are tied for seventh place overall with scores of 79.
