Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State University swept Ashland 5-0 on Friday, picking up a victory in the first round of the NCAA Regional Tournament. The No. 24 Lakers won all three doubles and picked up the required two singles victories, ending the match one hour into competition. GVSU will play the winner of Drury/Michigan Tech on Saturday at 1 p.m.

In first doubles, Jenna Killips and Emily Zellner shut out their opponents 8-0, and so did Chelsea Johnston and Darylann Trout in third doubles. At the number two spot, Audrey Koopsen and Jaime Oppenlander picked up an 8-4 win over Morgan Sanders and Christa Halicki.

In singles competition, Koopsen and Johnston won in the second and third spots, respectively. Koopsen won 6-3, 6-2, and Johnston won in dominating fashion, 6-0, 6-1. The rest of the singles matches went unfinished, as GVSU had claimed the five points necessary for a victory.
