Georgetown Sailing Still in Second Place with Just Four Races to go on Wednesday

June 4, 2008

Newport, R.I. - The Georgetown University sailing team held onto second place after the second day of competition at the ICSA/Gill National Championship on Tuesday. The Hoyas have compiled 167 points over two days and now trail only Boston College's 150 points after ten Tuesday races that saw a six- knot southwesterly turn into a breeze in the low teens which caused a strong current.

The final four races in both the A and B Divisions will be completed on Wednesday, June 4. A storm is predicted to move into the area Tuesday night bringing heavy downpours and SSE breeze.

GU's B Division boat of Charlie Buckingham and Alexandra Taylor has been stellar thus far as the duo has posted a B Divison-best 55 points. Buckingham and Taylor have navigated the waters and finished first or second in six different races.

Complete Day 1 Coed Team Race results can be viewed here.

Noted sailing commentator and Annapolis, Md. native Gary Jobson will produce a one-hour program on the ICSA/Gill National Championship for ESPNU which will have its first airing Saturday, July 19 at noon eastern time.
