Georgetown Uses Six-Run Seventh Inning to Defeat USF, 6-3

March 29, 2008

Box Score

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University baseball team scored six runs in the seventh inning to come from behind and defeat USF on Saturday evening in Tampa, Fla., by a score of 6-3. The win snapped a six-game conference losing streak as senior Michael Gaggioli his first win of 2008 for the Blue and Gray, striking out eight batters in seven innings.

Down 3-0 entering the seventh, the Hoyas needed to get something offensively against USF pitcher Matt Quevedo who had allowed only two hits through the first six frames. With one out, Quevedo walked senior Matt Iannetta and freshman Sean Lamont. After a pitching change, senior Matt Harrigan walked and the Bulls made their second pitching change of the inning. Junior Sean Baumann would get the Hoyas on the board with a RBI single up the middle. Junior Greg Pustizzi would then tie the game with a two-run single to left.

Sophomore Chip Malt then gave the Hoyas the lead with another run-scoring single to center. Sophomore Tommy Lee would reach base on an error by the USF first baseman and the score increased to 5-3. A wild pitch would then plate pinch-runner, sophomore Rob Begin, for the final tally.

Senior Daniel Kennedy pitched two scoreless innings of relief for his second save of the year and junior rightfielder Kelly Muir, in a change of roles and hitting lead-off, collected three hits for the Blue and Gray

The Hoyas and Bulls will complete their three-game series tomorrow at noon from Tampa, Fla.
