May 15, 2008

Box Score

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University baseball team was defeated by Seton Hall on Thursday night at Shirley Povich Field, 18-2.

In the fourth inning, the Hoyas received a lead-off solo homer from Dan Capeless, his seventh of the season. Then, with two outs, Tom Elliott laced a run-scoring double down the left field line to score Muir. It was one of three hits on the evening for the sophomore shortstop. In the previous frame, Georgetown had loaded the bases with one out, but a strikeout and groundout ended the threat.

Seton Hall jumped out to a 7-0 lead, providing starting pitcher Corey Young with more than enough offense. The lefthander earned his eighth win of the season and struck out nine batters during five innings of work. Second baseman Mark Pappas went 5-for-5 with four runs scored and centerfielder Dan Lopez was 4-for-6 with two runs and four RBI.

The Hoyas and Pirates will continue their three-game series tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. from Shirley Povich Field. If the game is rained out, the two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday.
