No. 11 Georgetown Men's Lacrosse Hosts ECAC Rival St. John's on Saturday

Feb. 29, 2008

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The No. 11-ranked Georgetown University men's lacrosse team hosts ECAC rival St. John's University at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, at the Multi-Sport Field. The game will mark the eighth time the Hoyas and Red Storm will play, with the Hoyas winning each of the previous seven matchups.

The game will be broadcasted on HoyaVision via the Georgetown Athletics website - www.guhoyas.com - and fans can hear Chuck Timanus provide live audio of the game.

On Saturday, February 23, Georgetown dropped its season opener to No. 7 Maryland, 11-6. Tewaaraton Trophy candidate Brendan Cannon (Haverford, Pa./The Haverford School) had one goal and one assist, Senior Miles Kass (Rye, N.Y./Hotchkiss) made 10 saves and the Hoyas won 14-of-21 face-offs in the losing effort.

The Hoyas are coming off a 12-3 2007 season that saw the team post a perfect 7-0 mark in the ECAC en route to the program's 11th-straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament. GU was selected to win the 2008 ECAC title, the ninth-straight season the Hoyas have been selected to win the conference.

Georgetown returns more than 30 letterwinners from last year's team, including eight starters. Cannon was selected as the ECAC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year for the second-straight season and senior Jerry Lambe (North Massapequa, N.Y./Farmingdale) was tabbed the ECAC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year for the second-straight time.

Cannon earned second-team All-America honors from the USILA last year as he led the Hoyas in scoring for the second-straight season, tallying 44 points on 21 goals and 23 assists. He was named the ECAC's Offensive Player of the Year and ranked 19th in the country in assists per game (1.53) and 43rd in the country in points per game (2.93). Cannon recorded 13 multi-point games, seven multi-goal games and seven multi-assist games. He enters his senior year 14th all-time in points scored (113) and eighth all-time in assists (63).

Lambe, a nominee for the Tewaaraton Trophy recognizing the top player in Division I lacrosse, leads a defensive unit that has been among the best in the country in recent years. A second-team USILA All-America selection last season, Lambe is one of several returning starters on the back line. He picked up 28 ground balls last season and led a defensive unit that allowed less than 10 goals in 12 different games.

Kass will start in goal for the Hoyas. A second-team All-ECAC selection last year, Kass posted an 8.16 goals-against average last season.

Tickets for the game can be purchased at the Multi-Sport Field at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the game. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for seniors and youths 14-and-under.
