  • Staying in the Game: Georgetown Senior Still Part of Hoya Men's Lax Team After Concussions Sideline Playing Career

  • Washington, D.C. - The two remaining undefeated teams in the ECAC Lacrosse League will meet up on Saturday, April 12 when No. 4 Georgetown visits Loyola (Md.) at Diane Geppi-Aikens Field. Face-off is slated for 1 p.m.

The Hoyas, winners of their last six games, enter the matchup with a 7-2 overall record and a 3-0 mark in the ECAC Lacrosse League, while Loyola enters the game with a 5-4 overall record and a 4-0 mark in the ECAC.

There are still three games left on the league schedule for the Hoyas - who host UMass next weekend before visiting Rutgers and Penn State to close out the regular season - but the meeting between the Hoyas and Greyhounds will go a long way toward deciding the league's regular season champion.

Georgetown, the preseason favorite to win the ECAC in 2008, has won the league title six times since it was formed in 2000 (2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2007) and have been the preseason favorite every year.

The meeting with Loyola will be the 31st all-time between the schools. The Greyhounds lead the head-to-head series, 24-6, but the Hoyas have won five of the last six meetings. Since the ECAC League was formed in 2000, Georgetown leads series, 5-2, including two wins in Baltimore. The Greyhounds won the last meeting at their home field, posting a 14-10 win during the 2006 season. Georgetown won last year's game, 10-8, scoring six goals in the second half, including three from Andrew Brancaccio (Chevy Chase, Md./Georgetown Prep).

Senior Brendan Cannon (Haverford, Pa./Haverford School) leads the team in scoring with 16 goals and 19 assists for 35 points. Cannon ranks sixth in the country in assists per game (2.11) and is 12th in points per game (3.89). He has 66 goals and 82 assists for 148 points in his career, which ranks seventh all-time at Georgetown.

Classmate Andrew Baird (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) is second on the team in scoring with 28 points. Baird ranks second in the ECAC, and 15th in the country, in goals per game (2.33). He has already set a career-high with 21 goals in nine games this season.

Sophomore Craig Dowd (East Northport, N.Y./Northport) is third on the team with 10 goals and 12 assists for 22 points, sophomore Ricky Mirabito (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Forks) is fourth with 11 goals and four assists for 15 points and Brancaccio is fifth on the team with 12 goals and one assist for 13 points.

Senior goalie Miles Kass (Rye, N.Y./Hotchkiss) has helped to lead a defensive unit that has held five opponents to fewer than 10 goals this season. He carries an 8.35 goals-against average and a 59.0 saves percentage, which ranks 12th in the country.

The Greyhounds are coming off an impressive 15-3 win over Rutgers last weekend. They have been led by a strong defensive unit that is allowing only 4.0 goals per game in ECAC play and is scoring 12.0 goals per game. Shake Koppens leads the team in scoring with 10 goals and 18 assists for 28 points, while Cooper MacDonnell has 18 goals and three assists for 21 points and Matt Langan has 11 goals and three assists for 14 points.
