Philadelphia, Pa. - The Georgetown University men's tennis team fought back to tie University of Pennsylvania after dropping the team doubles point and the top two singles matches, but the Quakers were able to pick up a crucial victory in the sixth singles spot to defeat the Hoyas, 4-3 during Friday afternoon's match at the Levy Tennis Pavilion in Philadelphia, Pa. The Hoyas got off to a slow start, as Penn swept doubles play to earn the first point. After losses in the first two singles positions, GU got its first break of the afternoon, taking the No. 4 match when Penn's Justin Fox sprained his ankle and was unable to finish, handing sophomore David Tillem (Atlanta, Ga./The Weber School) a victory. Junior Adam Gross (Quogue, N.Y./Westhampton) then defeated Eric Riley, 6-4, 7-5 at No. 5 and sophomore Will Lowell (Nahant, Mass./Saddlebrook Prep) got the better of Joseph Lok, 6-1, 6-4 to even the score at three apiece. Senior Ted Tywang (Nashville, Tenn./Montgomery Bell Academy) was not able to stop Penn's Adam Schwartz, who squeaked through the first set, 7-6 before taking the second set 6-2 to win the match. The Hoyas travel to College Park, Md. on Saturday to take on No. 72 Maryland at 1 p.m.
