Georgetown Men's Tennis Shuts Out Longwood, 3-0 at VCU 4+1 Tournament

Richmond, Va. - The Georgetown University men's tennis team shutout Longwood, 3-0 during its second match at the VCU Men's 4x1 Invitational in Richmond, Va. on Friday. The victory moves the Hoyas to 2-0 in the spring portion of the season.

Senior Jeffrey Schnell (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) was instrumental in the Blue and Gray's win over Longwood. Schnell and Kevin Walsh (Bernardsville, N.J./Delbarton), the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) No. 12 pair in the region, defeated Milo and Mani Barajas-Alexander in straight sets (6-2, 6-3).

In singles play, Georgetown dropped just one set, as Sophomore Will Lowell (Nahant, Mass./Saddlebrook Prep) defeated David Cardosa (6-1, 6-2) in the second singles spot and sophomore David Tillem (Atlanta, Ga./The Weber School) (6-4, 6-4) beat Brandon Lindsay (6-4, 6-4) in the third.

Anthony Tan (Jakarta, Indonesia/Anglo-Chinese J.C.) held a one set advantage over Carlos Garcia de Andoain in the top singles match, before the match was decided. Senior Ted Tywang (Nashville Tenn./Montgomery Bell Academy) also held a 2-0 advantage in the final set after splitting the first two, 6-2, 4-6 with Billy Heird before the match was called.

The Hoyas return to action next Friday, Jan. 25 at No. 38 Old Dominion.
