Miami Shores, Fla. - The Georgetown University men's tennis team could not hold on after taking a 4-2 lead against seventh-ranked Division II Barry University, as the Buccaneers rallied back to win, 5-4 at the Buccaneer Tennis Center on Monday afternoon. "We were playing against one of the best teams in Division II and we had the match on our rackets," Georgetown head coach Gordie Ernst said. "We took our lumps in the beginning of the season, but this is a huge morale boost for us." Sophomore Will Lowell (Nahant, Mass./Saddlebrook Prep) and freshman Tim Walsh (Bernardsville, N.J./Delbarton) won, 8-6 to earn a point at the No. 2 doubles spot. Junior Kenneth Wong (Repulse Bay, Hong Kong/St. Pauls's N.H.) and sophomore David Tillem (Atlanta, Ga./The Weber School) fought for a 9-7 victory at No. 3 doubles to give the Hoyas a 2-1 lead heading into singles play. Senior Jeffrey Schnell (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) defeated Ales Svigelj, 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 1 singles match. "That's one of the best wins of Jeff's career," Ernst said. Lowell picked up GU's next singles victory, defeating Roman Werschel, the 49th ranked player in Division II, 6-3, 6-3 for his second consecutive singles victory. In the fourth singles match senior Ted Tywang (Nashville, Tenn./Montgomery Bell Academy) had two set points in the first set, but dropped fell 7-6 in the first to Jakub Fejfar. Fejfar went on to take the second set, 6-4 to earn the victory for the Buccaneers. Barry won the last two singles matches in straight sets to earn a 5-4 victory.
