WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Georgetown men's tennis team swept through Howard University, 6-0, dropping one set to the Bison on Thursday afternoon at McDonough Tennis Complex. It was the Hoyas first win since defeating Longwood, 3-0 on January 18. Seniors Jeffery Schnell (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) and Etienne Paris (Miami, Fla./Ransom Everglades) got GU started defeating Chris Brown and Armon Murray, 8-3 in the No. 1 doubles match. Juniors Kevin Walsh (Bernardsville, N.J./Delbarton) and Kenneth Wong (Repulse Bay, Hong Kong/St. Paul's [N.H.]) won the No. 2 doubles match 8-2, helping the Hoyas capture the team doubles point. The blue and gray swept through singles play, dropping just one set over five matches. Schnell earned a victory in the No. 1 match deeating Chris Brown, 6-1, 6-2. Junior Adam Gross (Quogue, N.Y./Westhampton) defeated Neilaba Avasthi, 6-3, 3-6, (10-6) in the second singles match. Wong quickly defeated Murray in the third singles match, 6-1, 6-1. Freshman Tim Walsh (Bernardsville, N.J./Delbarton) earned his first singles victory of 2008 against Chad Jones, winning 6-0, 7-5 in the No. 4 match, while Kevin Walsh defeated Amato Nocera, 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 5 match. The Hoyas host BIG EAST foe St. John's on Saturday at McDonough Tennis Complex at noon. It will be GU's first BIG EAST home match of the 2008 season.
