Hoyas Top St. John's for First Time in Four Years

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University men's tennis team pushed past visiting St. John's, 4-3 on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore David Tillem (Atlanta, Ga./The Weber School) clinched the match with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 victory in the No. 3 singles match.

For the Hoyas, it was the first win over St. John's in four years.

GU got out to a quick start, as senior Jeffrey Schnell (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) and junior Adam Gross (Quogue, N.Y./Westhampton) earned an 8-5 win in the top doubles match and senior Ted Tywang (Nashville, Tenn./Montgomery Bell Academy) and junior Kenneth Wong (Repulse Bay, Hong Kong/St. Paul's [N.H.]) won the third match, 8-3 to earn the team doubles point.

Sophomore Anthony Tan (Jakarta, Indonesia/Anglo-Chinese Junior College) picked up the Hoyas first singles victory, winning the No. 4 match, 6-4, 6-2. Gross came back to win the No. 5 match, defeating Jordan Talbot 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, tying the score at three wins apiece.

Tillem outlasted Martin Kosut in the No. 3 spot, 7-5, 4-6, 6-1, clinching the GU victory.
