WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Georgetown men's tennis team won its fifth-consecutive match, defeating University of Maryland-Baltimore County, 5-2, as junior Kenneth Wong (Repulse Bay, Hong Kong/St. Paul's [N.H.]) clinched the match for the Hoyas in the No. 5 singles match. The surging Hoyas have now won its last five matches, after dropping 10 straight to move to 7-10 on the season. Sophomore David Tillem (Atlanta, Ga./The Weber School) has won his last four singles matches, including the last three in the No. 2 singles position. After dropping the top doubles match, senior Kevin Walsh (Bernardsville, N.J./Delbarton) and Tillem defeated Nick Savage Pollock and Fernando Ferreira, 8-5 in the second spot. Senior Ted Tywang (Nashville, Tenn./Montgomery Bell Academy) and sophomore Anthony Tan (Jakarta, Indonesia/Anglo-Chinese Junior College) won the third doubles match, 9-7 to capture the team doubles point for the Hoyas. Senior Jeffrey Schnell (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) picked up the blue and gray's first singles victory, defeating Chris Meyer in the top singles match, 6-4, 7-5. Tillem kept GU going, defeating Savage Pollock, 6-4, 7-5 in the No. 2 singles match, giving the Hoyas a 3-1 match advantage. Wong was the next player to come off the court, defeating Logan Bricker, 6-3 4-6, 6-1 in the No. 5 singles match to clinch the Hoyas fifth-consecutive victory. Tywang also earned a singles victory, defeating Ferreira, 6-2, 7-5 in the sixth singles match.
