WASHINGTON, D.C. - WASHINGTON, D.C. - The No. 6 Georgetown University men's tennis team (10-12, 3-2 BIG EAST) will take on third-seeded University of South Florida at noon on Friday, April 18 at the USF Tennis Courts in Tampa, Fla., during the first round of the BIG EAST Men's Tennis Tournament.

The sixth-seeded Hoyas moved up a place in the conference after earning a seven seed in 2007.

"It's very exciting to jump up a seed in front of a full scholarship program like St. John's," said head coach Gordie Ernst. "It's a great confidence booster and the guys love the fact that we're playing a team like South Florida on their home court."

To say it has been a roller-coaster season for the Hoyas would be an understatement. After winning its first two matches, the Hoyas dropped the next 10. An impressive turnaround saw them take the next eight, including wins against BIG EAST foes, St. John's (4-3), Villanova (6-1) and Connecticut (6-1).

"The leadership of seniors Jeffrey Schnell and Teddy Tywang is what has carried us through the ups and downs this season," Ernst said.

Senior Ted Tywang (Nashville, Tenn./Montgomery Bell Academy) has won his last eight singles matches, the longest winning streak of the season for a Hoyas player. Senior Jeffrey Schnell (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) has won six of his last eight singles matches, all in the No. 1 spot.

Junior Adam Gross (Quogue, N.Y./Westhampton) and sophomore David Tillem (Atlanta, Ga./The Weber School) each had personal four match win streaks during the Hoyas eight-match team winning streak.
