Maloy's PR 1500m Time is One of Four NCAA Regional Qualifying Times in Chapel Hill

May 10, 2008

Washington, D.C. - With just three weeks left before the NCAA Regional, the Georgetown University track & field team traveled to Chapel Hill, N.C. as the Tar Heels hosted the Taylor Cattle Farms Carolina Classic at the UNC Finley Fields, Fetzer Field and Belk Track. The Hoyas put up four qualifying times including a more than impressive performance from graduate student Elizabeth Maloy (Loudonville, N.Y./Academy of Holy Names) ran a PR in the 1500m as she won the event with a time of 4:16.76.

Maloy was the first of six student-athletes donning the Blue and Gray to cross the finish line in the top ten. Junior Maggie Infeld (University Heights, Ohio/Beaumont) followed up in third with a time of 4:21.53 - also an NCAA Regional time - followed by graduate student Susan Hendrick (Solomons, Md./Patuxent/Columbia) in fourth (4:28.73), senior Joanna Rodgers (Fairfax, Va./J.W. Robinson/NC State) in fifth (4:29.63), sophomore Renee Tomlin (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) in sixth (4:30.21) and sophomore Lauren Gregory (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) in seventh (4:31.40). All times were ECAC qualifying times.

Senior Ashley Hubbard (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) also ran an NCAA Regional qualifying time as she finished second in the 800m run with a time of 2:09.14.

The last Hoya to post an NCAA Regional qualifying time was junior Kenny Mitchell (Atlanta, Ga./Weber) with his 10.45 mark in the 100m dash. It was one-hundredth of a second off his PR and school record.

In the 400m, sophomore Abigail Johnson (Willingboro, N.J./Milton Hershey [Pa.]) ran a 54.91 to take fourth place - the time was an ECAC qualifying time.

Sophomore Danny Harris (Deer Park, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) ran an IC4A time of 1:51.86 in the 800m run to take second place while senior Neil Grosscup (Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest) placed eighth in the 1500m when he timed in at 3:51.33, also an IC4A cut time.

The Hoyas return to action next weekend when the squad splits sites between the IC4A/ECAC Championship in Princeton, N.J. and the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta, Ga.
