Washington, D.C - The Georgetown University women's basketball team (11-7, 1-4 BE) travels a little over three hours west to take on the No. 12/12 West Virginia Mountaineers (15-3, 4-1) at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 26 inside WVU Coliseum. The game will be televised on local television, WVPBS and live stats are available at ww.guhoyas.com. Georgetown will be looking to win consecutive BIG EAST games for the first time since Feb. 4 - Feb. 8, 2006 while West Virginia has won four straight games and three straight conference games. Hoyas in the Series vs. West Virginia ... The Hoyas lead the all-time series 10-7 but WVU has won three straight overall and four straight here at the WVU Coliseum. Georgetown's last win in Morgantown was Jan. 26, 2000. GU seniors Kristin Heidloff (Chicaco, Ill./Fenwick) and Kieraah Marlow (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) have played well in the previous four meetings against the Mountaineers. Heidloff is averaging 12.0 points and 3.2 assists while Marlow is averaging 13.0 points and 8.7 rebounds vs. WVU. Heidloff had 18 points in last season's game but WVU went on a 19-0 run late in the first half to take a commanding 39-21 lead at intermission en route to a 69-47 victory. Fast Breaks ... Georgetown started 6-0 at home for the first time since the 1996-97 campaign. -- Georgetown ranks sixth in the BIG EAST allowing 57.3 points per game. The Hoyas have held eight opponents to under 53 points. In BIG EAST play however, Georgetown is allowing 68.6 points per game. -- Georgetown is10-0 when they hold the lead with five minutes to go. -- GU has had a higher field goal percentage than its opponent in 13 of the 17 games this season. Georgetown has also shot 50 percent or better in a half on 12 different occasions and finished a game shooting over 50 percent three times.
-- Sophomore Jaleesa Butler (St. Louis, Mo./Alton [Ill.]) earned her first career start vs. VCU to give the front line a little more length that day and Butler has stayed in the starting lineup ever since. Starting in the last 11 games, Butler is averaging 11.6 points on 48 percent shooting (49-101), 6.6 rebounds and 1.4 blocks. -- Senior co-captain Kristin Heidloff ranks sixth on the school's all-time list with 138 career three-pointers. She need one more trey to tie Kate Carlin (2003-07) for fifth place. Heidloff had five assists vs. No. 17 Notre Dame to become one of just eight Hoyas in school history to surpass the 300-assist mark (302). -- Senior co-captain and leading scorer Kieraah Marlow connected on her 500th career field goal vs. Brown and reached the 1,500-point mark last time out vs. Seton Hall. She's made 45.8 percent of the field goals over her career (526-1148). She became the seventh member of the Hoya program to knock down at least 500 FG's. -- Kieraah Marlow's 34 points vs. Notre Dame is the single-game high for a BIG EAST player this season. Shanice Fuller ... Sophomore guard Shanice Fuller (Chesapeake, Va./Indian River) started at point guard in every game last season as a freshman. Fuller finished her rookie campaign averaging 5.0 points to go along with 83 assists and 95 turnovers. As a sophomore this season, Fuller ranks 10th in the BIG EAST with 3.8 assists per game and she has compiled 44 assists vs. just 21 turnovers in the last 10 games. The Chesapeake, Va. native compiled 69 assists already this season despite coming off the bench in all but four games. Fuller has been in the starting lineup in each of the last three games, averaging 6.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists. Kieraah Marlow ... Senior forward Kieraah Marlow now ranks fourth on the school's all-time list in scoring (1,500 career points) and fifth in rebounding (755). Marlow, who earned All-BIG EAST Second Team honors in each of the last two seasons, is one of two Hoya players to rank in the school's top 5 in both categories - the other being Rebekkah Brunson (2000-04), GU'sonly AP All-American honorable mention honoree. The Coatesville, Pa. native tallied double figures 80 times in her career and 15 times this season. Her 29 career double-doubles ranks third among active BIG EAST players and she ranks 10th in the league in scoring (15.6 ppg). She's led the team in scoring in 12 of the team's 18 games this season. Amazingly, Marlow was held scoreless for the first time in her collegiate career vs. Rutgers but in the next game vs. Notre Dame, Marlow was tremendous. A determined Marlow posted her 29th career double-double with 34 points and 13 rebounds against No. 17 Notre Dame last Saturday. It was the first 30-point effort for the Hoyas since Marlow went for 30 vs. Savannah State on December 12 of last season. Brina Pollack ... In her first three career starts, all this season, guard Brina Pollack (Marlboro, N.J./Marlboro) recorded a career-high 12 points each time. Pollack, a transfer from Purdue, was limited to just 13 games last season due to injuries. This season, the Marlboro, N.J. native ranks third on the team with 24.8 minutes and 8.0 points per game. Pollack had her best perfrmance in the month of January with seven points, three rebounds and three assists vs. Rutgers and she led the team with 13 points last time out vs. Seton Hall. She posted new career-highs with 20 points and six rebounds at Penn State. Meredith Cox ... Twenty three of sophomore guard Meredith Cox's (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) 33 field goals this season are from long range. Cox tallied in double figures for the fourth time this season with 10 points on 3-5 shooting from long range vs. ND on Saturday. Cox is averaging 7.0 points per game and connecting on 11-27 (40%) thre Scouting West Virginia ... West Virginia, who has won four straight, has four players averaging double-figures. Senior center Olayinka Sanni (17.6), senior Meg Bulger (13.2), senior LaQuita Owens (11.9) and senior Chakhia Cole are pacing the Mountaineer attack. e-pointers in BIG EAST play. Those numbers are up from her season averages of 5.6 points and the 31 percent from three-point land. |
