Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's basketball team (13-10, 3-7 BE) travels to face Louisville (17-7, 6-5 BE) in a BIG EAST Conference tilt on Sunday afternoon, February 17, inside Freedon Hall. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. Georgetown has won two of its last three BIG EAST games with the loss coming at No. 2 Connecticut this past Tuesday. GU's three league wins has already matched its BIG EAST win total after the Hoyas won three league games in each of the last two years. Louisville and their fans will participate in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) "Think Pink" initiative to raise awareness for breast cancer. The Georgetown coaches and student-athletes participated in the "Think Pink" initiative in its home game vs. St. John's by wearing pink shoelaces, pink headbands and pink t-shirts during warmups. The coaching staff wore pink shirts and ties on the sidelines. Georgetown also joined the Connecticut Huskies in the effort on Tuesday. Last season in Washington, D.C., then No. 16 Louisville slipped past the Hoyas 57-54. GU battled back from a 38-28 deficit with 16:48 to go and took a 48-45 lead with 7:54 but the Cardinals wrestled back the lead, 52-50 with 3:40 left.
Angel McCoughtry led the Louisville attack with 24 points and 14 boards while GU's Kieraah Marlow went for 21 points and six rebounds.
Fast Breaks ... Georgetown started 6-0 at home for the first time since the 1996-97 campaign.
-- Georgetown ranks fifth in the BIG EAST allowing 59.5 points per game. The Hoyas have held eight opponents to under 53 points. In BIG EAST play however, Georgetown is allowing 68.1 points per game, ranking 10th in the league.
-- GU has had a higher field goal percentage than its opponent in 14 of the 23 games this season. Georgetown has also shot 50 percent or better in a half on 13 different occasions and finished a game shooting over 50 percent three times. The Hoyas connected on 58 percent of its second half field goals vs. Syracuse. The only other time Georgetown shot the ball better after halftime was in the win over Brown when GU made 59 percent of its shots.
-- Opponents have shot the basketball better than the Hoyas in seven of the 10 league games but in the two games where the Hoyas had a better field goal percentage (Seton Hall and Syracuse), GU was victorious. Georgetown outshot Seton Hall, 46% - 36% and GU won the game, 57-56. The Hoyas also outshot the Orange, 49% - 41% to earn the seven-point win. The Hoyas topped St. John's, 61-60 despite the fact that the Red Storm outshot GU, 41 percent to 33 percent.
-- Junior transfer Beata Widding had surgery to extract a bone from her ankle on Nov. 19, 2007. The guard was listed as "out indefinitely" but saw her first action of the season last time out, playing 11 minutes at No. 2 UConn.
-- Junior transfer and post player Krystle Hatton has come off the bench and scored four points in each of the last three games.
-- The Hoyas were given some terrific news during the second week of November. Georgetown's recruiting class was ranked sixth in the nation by Mike Flynn's Blue Star Report and 18th nationally by HoopGurlz.com. It marks Coach Flournoy's first top 10 recruiting class.
Shanice Not Suffering from Sophomore Jinx ... Sophomore guard Shanice Fuller started at point guard in every game last season as a freshman. Fuller finished her rookie campaign averaging 5.0 points to go along with 83 assists and 95 turnovers.
As a sophomore this season, Fuller ranks 9th in the BIG EAST with 3.8 assists per game and she has compiled 64 assists vs. 36 turnovers in the last 15 games. The Chesapeake, Va. native compiled 89 assists already this season (83 last year) despite coming off the bench in all but nine games.
Fuller has been in the starting lineup in each of the last eight games, averaging 7.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists while compiling a team best 13 steals during the stretch.
Diop Continuting Steady Play in the Post ... Senior 6-5 center Aminata Diop, a transfer from Southeastern Illinois J.C., averaged 6.1points and 5.3 rebounds a year ago in her first season in the Blue and Gray.
The native of Senegal, on the western coast of Africa, hit 45 percent of her field goals and notched two double-doubles last season. Diop, who speaks four languages, English, French, Dutch and Wolof (native to Senegal) had her third career double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds vs. Navy this season.
In her 19 starts, Diop is averaging 7.8 points on 51 percent shooting (58-113) and 3.6 rebounds.
Diop did miss the ECU, Furman and Brown games with a sprained right knee.
Diop has scored 11 points in each of the last three games, leading the team with 11 points and six rebounds at Connecticut on Tuesday.
Cox Getting in a Rhythm ... Sophomore Meredith Cox had a season-high 12 points on five field goals and two treys at Fordham. Cox matched the 12 points at Cincinnati and matched her career-high with four three pointers.
Thirty five of her 45 made field goals a year ago were from three-point land.
Thirty three of her 45 field goals this season are from long range.
Cox probably had her best overall effort vs. Furman, recording 10 points, four rebounds and four assists.
Cox tallied in double figures for the fourth time this season with 10 points on 3-5 shooting from long range vs. ND.
Cox has connected on three treys in each of the last three games.
Scouting Louisville ... Louisville (17-7, 6-5 BE) junior Angel McCoughtry leads the BIG EAST and the team in scoring and rebounding with 24.2 points and 8.9 rebounds per game. Candyce Bingham is second on the team in scoring and rebounding with 14.1 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. Senior point guard Patrika Barlow leads the team and the league in assists with 7.1 per game.
U of L's six wins in the league have come against Cincinnati (twice), Marquette, USF, at DePaul and at St. John's.
The Cardinals have won four straight games.
