No. 6 Hoyas Suffer Tough Loss at No. 5 Syracuse on Saturday

April 5, 2008

Box Score

Syracuse, N.Y. - The sixth-ranked Georgetown University women's lacrosse team converted on just three of 22 shot attempts and No. 5 Syracuse raced out to a 7-0 lead over the first 21 minutes as the Orange dealt the Hoyas an 18-3 defeat on Saturday afternoon in the Carrier Dome.

Syracuse junior Katie Rowan set a new Orange single-game record with 11 points on four goals and seven assists.

After Georgetown won 10 straight games over Syracuse from 1999 through the regular-season last year, SU has won the last two meetings between the schools.

Junior Bunny O'Reilly, sophomore Molly Ford and freshman Jordy Kirr accounted for the three Hoya goals. Freshman Lauren Thomas made five saves in 40 minutes off the bench.

"We just didn't shoot the ball very well today," said Hoyas head coach Ricky Fried, who suffered the worst loss during his four-year tenure. "I think we hit seven pipes but Syracuse wanted it more than we did and they executed much better."

The Blue and Gray made it a 7-1 game on Bunny O'Reilly's goal at the 10:50 mark with sophomore Ashby Kaestner earning her eighth assist of the season but Syracuse scored the first half's final three goals over a three-plus minute span that gave the home a 7-1 halftime lead.

Rowan had a goal and an assist as Syracuse opened the second half with three straight games as the Orange held a commanding 13-1 lead.

The three goals was the Hoyas' smallest scoring output since 2005 (13-3 loss at Dartmouth in NCAAs).

Georgetown hosts No. 4 Virginia on Wednesday, April 9 at 3:30 p.m on the Multi-Sport Field.
