Jordy Kirr's Eight Points Leads No. 9 Hoyas to 16-7 Win Over UConn

Storrs, Conn. - Freshman Jordy Kirr recorded a career-high eight points with five assists and three goals and the No. 9 Georgetown University women's lacrosse team posted a 16-7 victory at Connecticut in BIG EAST action on a comfortable and breezy Sunday afternoon. The Hoyas (10-5) finish BIG EAST play with a 3-2 record and earn the No. 3 seed in next weekend's BIG EAST Tournament.

Georgetown will take on second seeded Notre Dame at 8 p.m. on Friday, April 25 inside Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Indiana in the second BIG EAST semifinal. Top seed Syracuse will duel with No. 4 seed Rutgers in the opening semifinal game at 5:30 p.m.

The Hoyas held a 6-1 lead over the UConn on Sunday before the Huskies pulled to within 8-6 with 20 minutes to go in regulation. Georgetown then scored three quick goals to extend its lead to 10-6 to put the game away. Georgetown outshot the Huskies, 34-19 for the game.

Ashby Kaestner netted a game-high four goals while Zan Morley posted the ninth multi-goal game of her career with three tallies. Sophomore Molly Ford also pitched in with a hat trick. Patty Piotrowicz, Sarah Seats and Ashley Lopez each added a goal. Seats and Lopez scored their first goals of the season.

Conencticut received four goals from four different players in the first nine minutes of the second half to close to 7-5.

Katy Ryan scored a free position goal for the Huskies with 19:47 left in the game to bring UConn to within 8-6.
 

 

But Kirr scored a free position goal a minute and a half later before she assisted on Ford's second goal of the afternoon to give the Blue and Gray the 10-6 lead. It was the first two goals of an eight-goal scoring streak for the Hoyas.

Caitlin Formby and Lauren Thomas combined for 10 saves in net for the Hoyas.

GU junior Bridget Noon compiled three ground balls and three caused turnovers while Jordan Trautman posted two draws and two GB's.

Katy Ryan led UConn with three goals and an assist while Jenna Moulton had 12 saves in goal for the Huskies.
