Washington, D.C. - The No. 6 Georgetown University women's lacrosse team (8-2, 2-0 BE) travels to Syracuse, N.Y. for a BIG EAST showdown against the No. 5 Orange (9-2, 2-0) on Saturday afternoon, April 5 inside the Carrier Dome. The first draw control is set for noon. The game marks the first-ever meeting between two Division I schools ranked in the top ten that are coached by men. Hoya head coach Ricky Fried is in his fourth season and boasts an overall record of 45-19 (.703). Fried has led Georgetown to a 16-1 record in regular season BIG EAST games. Syracuse is now led by Lacrosse Hall of Famer, Gary Gait. Gait, in his first season on the women's sidelines for SU, was an assistant coach with the University of Maryland women's program for nine seasons, including seven consecutive national titles (1995-2001). -- The only common opponent for both Georgetown and Syracuse has been top-ranked Northwestern. The Hoyas held the Wildcats to 12 goals below their season average in the 7-6 loss last week while Syracuse fell to NU, 19-7 on March 24. SU trailed 5-4 at halftime but yielded 14 second half goals. -- Georgetown sophomore Ashby Kaestner has notched at least five points in five different games this season. Kaestner, who was named to the Tewaaraton Trophy Watch List early last week, leads the Hoyas with 37 goals, 44 points, 23 draws and 23 caused turnovers.
-- The Hoyas have 51 assists on 114 goals this season. -- Sophomore goalkeeper Caitlin Formby has been very consistent in the net. In her first season as the full-time starter, the Towson, Md. native is averaging 8.0 saves per game and has a save percentage of 51 percent. She ranks among the nation's top ten in both save percentage and and goals-against-average (7.79). -- Junior midfielder Megan Bloomer ranks fourth on the team with eight goals while ranking second on the team with 21 draw controls and third on the team with 16 caused turnovers. GU sophomore Molly Ford has at least two points in nine of the team's ten games. Ford has 25 goals and 12 assists and ranks second on the team with 37 points. -- Attacker Jordy Kirr leads all freshmen nationwide with 21 assists. -- The Hoya starting defense of senior Amelia Wesselink and juniors Katie Burton, Bridget Noon and Jordan Trautman has combined for 42 caused turnovers. -- Syracuse junior attacker Katie Rowan, the BIG EAST Pre-season Player of the Year, entered the week leading the nation with 61 points. |
