No. 6 Princeton and No. 7 Georgetown Tangle in Final Regular Season Game

May 2, 2008

Game Notes

Washington, D.C. - The seventh-ranked Georgetown University women's lacrosse team (11-6) will do battle with the sixth-ranked Princeton Tigers (12-3) on Saturday, May 3 at the Multi-Sport Field in the final regular-season game for both schools. Live audio and video can be seen at www.guhoyas.com with Chuck Timanus calling the action. The first draw control is set for 1:05.

Prior to the game, Georgetown will recognize Georgetown's three graduating seniors: starting attacker Zan Morley, starting midfielder Patty Piotrowicz and starting defender Amelia Wesselink.

The Hoyas return to the Hilltop on Saturday after what turned out to be a four-game road trip. GU played games at No. 3 Maryland and at Connecticut during the middle week of April and then Georgetown participated in two games during last weekend's BIG EAST Tournament. The Hoyas won a three-overtime thriller vs. No. 10 Notre Dame in the semifinals, 15-14 on Friday before Georgetown fell to No. 5 Syracuse, 12-6 on Sunday in the title game.

What's at Stake ... Both Georgetown and Princeton are looking to receive at-large bids to the NCAA Tournament and a victory on Saturday would certainly help the cause. Saturday's losing team is still in a good position to earn a NCAA berth but will have to wait until Monday's NCAA Tournamant Selection Show on Monday night, May 5 between 7 and 8 p.m. on CBS College Sports (formerly CSTV).

The NCAA Tournament is a 16-team, single-elimination tournament. Eight conferences receive a berth via automatic qualification (AQ). The remaining teams are selected at large.

Pennsylvania (Ivy), Syracuse (BIG EAST), Virginia (ACC) and Temple (A-10) have already won their respective leagues and an invitation to the Tournament.

The AQ conferences are: American Lacrosse Conference (ALC), Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), Atlantic-10 Conference (A-10), BIG EAST Conference, Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) and the Ivy League.

The winner of the Northeast Conference (NEC) (Sacred Heart) at American East Conference (Boston Univ.) play-in game and the winner of the Metro Atlantic Conference (MAAC) (Marist) at Patriot League (Colgate) play-in game also receive AQ bids. Marist plays at Colgate Saturday at noon while Sacred Heart is at Boston Univ. on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Schedule Strength ... The Hoyas have a strength of schedule ranked No. 1 in the nation by www.laxpower.com. Princeton is ranked No. 9. The Hoyas have played eight games vs. teams ranked in the top 10, including a stretch of four straight games (No. 5 Syracuse, No. 4 Virginia, No.10 Notre Dame and No. 3 Maryland) from Apr. 5 through Apr. 16.

Series with Princeton ... Princeton leads the all-time series, 8-5 and the Tigers have won five of the last six games.

The Hoyas are 3-1 vs. Princeton here in Washington, D.C.

The schools have met during every season since 1997. Princeton topped the Hoyas in the NCAAs First Round in 1998 and the Tigers edged Georgetown, 12-7 in the 2002 NCAA Championship Game.

Ten of the 13 games between the schools have been decided by two goals or less.
