Oct. 14, 2007 Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's soccer team (10-4-0, 3-3-0 BE) finished a five-game conference road trip on Sunday afternoon with a 1-0 win at DePaul (4-10-1, 1-6-0 BE). Senior defender Karen Waskewich (Laytonsville, Md./Academy of Holy Cross) scored her first goal of the season in the second half to provide the Hoyas with a slim victory. In the 63rd minute, senior midfielder Sara Jordan (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) crossed a ball in form the right side of the pitch to Waskewich, who one-timed it home from eight yards out. It was the fourth career goal for Waskewich and the 17th career assist for Jordan. Georgetown had a few good chances in the first half, but their best opportunity came in the 39th minute when freshman Ingrid Wells (Upper Montclair, N.J./Montclair) was denied by DePaul goalkeeper Kelsey Hoinkes. Despite out-shooting the Blue Demons 9-2 in the first half, Wells' shot was their only one on goal. The Blue and Gray dominated possession again in the second half and created even more opportunities on goal. Waskewich, Jordan, junior midfielder Stephanie Zare (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest) and freshman defender Michaela Buonomo (Churchville, Pa/Council Rock) all had good opportunities to score, but were denied by Hoinkes. Georgetown freshman goalkeeper Jackie DesJardin (Sunnyvale, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) recorded her sixth shutout of the season by making two crucial saves for the Hoyas. For the game, GU out-shot DePaul, 17-4.
The ladies' next game will be Friday, October 19 at 3 p.m. against nationally ranked West Virginia on North Kehoe Field. |
