Georgetown Women's Soccer Falls in BIG EAST Championship Semifinals, 2-0, to Notre Dame

Nov. 9, 2007

Box Score

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's soccer team (14-7-0, 6-5-0) lost 2-0 on Friday evening to No. 11 Notre Dame (15-4-1, 11-0-0) in the BIG EAST Championship Semifinals from Dick Dlesk Stadium on the campus of the University of West Virginia.

Georgetown's first scoring opportunity came at 15:45, but senior Karen Waskewich's (Laytonsville, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) attempt hit the near-side netting. At 20:09, the Blue and Gray got their first, and only, shot-on-goal off a header from sophomore Norah Swanson (Alamo, Calif./San Ramon Valley). However, ND goalkeeper Lauren Karas was there to make the save.

Just after the first-half restart, the Fighting Irish scored two goals in 42 seconds. Brittany Bock, who scored two goals in first meeting this season, put ND on the board with a header to the far post at 24:16. Less than a minute later, Rose Augustin deflected a cross from Courtney Rosen past GU goalkeeper Jade Higgins (Island Park, N.Y./West Hempstead) from six yards out to make the score, 2-0.

Georgetown's best opportunity in the second half came at 49:51 when they created their second corner-kick opportunity of the evening. However, they could not muster a shot-on-goal. For the game, the Hoyas were out-shot 11-1.

The Hoyas will now wait and see if, or when, they will play in the 2007 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championships. Selection information will be released by the NCAA on Monday, November 12 at 8 p.m. on ESPNews.
